Hi to all that reads this....
First and foremost, let me send out a huge hello to everyone who does actually read this journal to see what is happening with the NYC job search/life quest. Recently, I have been made more aware through encouraging phone calls and emails that people who I would never guess would be reading this is in fact doing so and wishing me all the luck with the search. So, thank you, and please feel free to email me if you have not already, or if you have and just want to touch base again. My email address is autness@gmail.com.
Now on to the update...
So the publication where I interned this summer offered me a temporary (with possibility of staying on longer) job. The pay is definitely NOT something to brag about, but it is pay nonetheless.... or maybe it is less... either way. After interviewing for many jobs that I found out were in fact unpaid internships, I gathered my pride (and my extreme budgeting attempts) and accepted the job position from my French (somewhat cheap) boss.
But hey, it's a job and I do love the people that I work with....
As far as apartments go... after my stint as housesitter for one of the main editors of Teen Vogue, my boyfriend, Evan came up and stayed a night in NY to help me in my apartment search. Oh, and I do have to throw out there that I did get a horse ride around central park from Evan... something I have been dreaming about all summer.
If you have heard that apartment hunting in NY is easy then you have been lied to. If you want to stay in Manhattan, expect to shell out at least $1000/month. That's right. Coming from NC, this rent price seems foreign to me. After many creepy replies back from seemingly normal Craigslist postings about apartments (girls asking if I was willing to experiment in bisexuality with them... umm, no thanks), viewing a room that was literally a cubby hole that I could not even sit up straight in without bumping my head on the ceiling, and finding out that "up and coming" neighborhoods in the Brooklyn and Harlem areas still scare me, I do have one positive lead: a 22 year old girl who writes for Hampton's Magazine is looking for a room mate for a railroad type room in the upper east side. Nice area and nice girl and decent sized room for that price (the cubby hole guy was asking for more).
As of right now, I am staying at the loft. After this week, I am not sure how stable my internet access will be, but I do hope to get my ibook fixed soon so I will be able to post more.
Wish me luck, and maybe even drop me an email.
All my <3,
Autumn
